1980 Computer Center
1980The 1980s were a period of growth for UND, marked by rising enrollments, full accreditation of professional schools and programs, more student diversity, and the development of new master's and doctoral programs. Perhaps the biggest change was the widespread use of computers and other technologies. The academic campus grew to nearly a mile in length with the addition of a research facility and growth in the aerospace program.

Computers, which had once been so large that one processor took up an entire room, began shrinking to desktop size, and the University took advantage of the technology to benefit students and research. The Scientific Computing Center began operation.
