Brian Murray

CEO Harper Collins

Brian Murray is President and Chief Executive Officer of HarperCollins Publishers. HarperCollins is one of the world's largest English-language publisher of consumer books, and has publishing operations in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and India. More than 3,000 new titles are published each year, by 60 branded imprints across all major English language markets. Since being appointed CEO, in 2008, Murray has led the transformation of HarperCollins from a traditional print publishing company to a dynamic print and digital publishing company generating $200M in digital revenues. HarperCollins has developed new digital capabilities and implemented global print-on-demand machines to better serve our authors and booksellers around the world. Additionally, Murray has led five acquisitions over the last five years, the largest acquisition being Thomas Nelson. With acquisition of Thomas Nelson resulted in the formation of HarperCollins Christian Publishing division, which positions HarperCollins as the leading publisher of Christian content in the world.

Michael Morrison

President and Publisher, U.S. General Books and Canada

Michael Morrison is President and Publisher, U.S. General Books and Canada at HarperCollins Publishers. He oversees the publishing operations of the U.S. General Books Group. In addition, his responsibilities include the oversight of HarperCollins Canada. He was appointed to this position June, 2008.

Morrison joined HarperCollins in January 1999 as Vice President, Associate Publisher of HarperCollins and later became Executive Vice President, Publisher of Morrow/Avon. He most recently served as President and Group Publisher of the HarperMorrow division. Morrison began his publishing career in the finance department of Simon & Schuster in 1982. He subsequently moved to Bantam, Doubleday and Dell as a Production Manager and then he became a Marketing Manager for many years. He returned to Simon & Schuster as a National Accounts Sales Representative and later moved to Random House in the same role. While at Random House he rose to the position of Sales Director of the Knopf/Vintage Group and then ran the RandomHouseAudio Division, before moving to HarperCollins as the Associate Publisher.

Morrison also serves on the Board of Advisors of the Masters in Publishing program at New York University.

Susan Katz

President and Publisher

Susan Katz joined Harper and Row in 1987 as Publisher of the College Division and a member of the Executive Committee. In 1993 Katz became Group Vice President of Education, managing the School and College Divisions of the Company and shortly thereafter she also added the responsibility of overseeing the Corporate Interactive Group. In 1996, Katz became President of the Children’s Division which is her current position. She has more than doubled the revenues of the Division and has published more Children’s bestsellers than any other publisher. She has had the honor of working with such authors as Maurice Sendak, Shel Silverstein, Neil Gaiman, John Grogan, Clive Barker, Eric Carle, Jamie Lee Curtis, Daniel Handler, Jane O’Connor, and Melissa Marr.

Katz is a member of the Board of Directors of First Book and the Children’s Book Council. Katz holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Boston University and a master’s degree from Columbia Teacher’s College.

Chantal Restivo-Alessi

Chief Digital Officer, HarperCollins Publishers

Chantal Restivo-Alessi is the Chief Digital Officer for HarperCollins Publishers, leading the overall global digital strategy for the company. She manages the commercial relationships with existing and new digital partners to grow digital revenues worldwide. She works with each division around the world, and is member of the company’s executive committee. She was appointed to this role in May 2012.

Restivo-Allessi has extensive expertise in strategy development and execution, as well as change management in the media space. She has held numerous senior strategy positions and has more than 20 years of international media management experience. She joined HarperCollins from ING Bank in London, where she was Head of Media Corporate Finance. In addition, she has worked at Aegis Group PLC in senior strategy and operational roles, EMI music, and Booz & Company.

Restivo-Alessi is fluent in six languages, holds an MBA from Columbia University, a Masters in Foreign Trade and International Marketing from ICE Italian Institute, and a Laurea (MA) in International Political Sciences from University of Rome.

Larry Nevins

Executive Vice President, Operations

Larry Nevins, Executive Vice President of Operations, is responsible for overseeing global digital operations, distribution, creative operations, information technology, administration, operations and supply chain and the facilities management functions at HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide. He was appointed to this position in July 2008.

Nevins joined HarperCollins in 2001 as Senior Vice President, Supply Chain and Operations. In 2005, he assumed responsibilities for the Creative Operations departments and established the Digital Publishing Services group.

Prior to joining HarperCollins, Nevins was Vice President, Director of Business Operations at Penguin Putnam Inc. He also served as Vice President of Production Systems and Operations for Penguin USA. Nevins began his career in the Children’s Book Division at Macmillan Publishing, before moving into roles at Scholastic and Viking Penguin.

Janet Gervasio

Chief Financial Officer

Janet Gervasio is Chief Financial Officer for HarperCollins Publishers, responsible for accounting, credit and collections, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, internal and external financial reporting, financial analysis and strategic management. She was appointed to this position in 1999.

Gervasio joined HarperCollins Publishers in 1985 as Budget Director. She later served as Business Manager of Basic Books, Vice President Finance of Children’s and Vice President Finance of North America before being named CFO.  Gervasio came to HarperCollins from Arthur Andersen, where she was a Senior Accountant. She is a certified public accountant.

Diane Bailey

Vice President, Human Resources

Diane Bailey is Senior Vice President, Human Resources and directly oversees all human resources functions for HarperCollins worldwide. Diane works closely with the HarperCollins executive team and News Corp on employee initiatives. She joined the company in 2009.

Prior to her career in book publishing, Bailey held several human resources management positions. She worked in a number of roles at Unilever between 1989 and 2005, including Vice President, Human Resources (both in Canada and the United States). Bailey moved to Ann Taylor in 2006, before joining Heineken USA as Vice President, Human Resources in 2008.

Chris Goff

Vice President and General Counsel

Chris Goff is Senior Vice President, General Counsel at HarperCollins Publishers. He oversees a team of attorneys who provide legal advice on a wide range of issues within the company, as well as the Contracts department. He was appointed to this position in 2005.

Goff began his career in publishing at Satterlee & Stephens, subsequently moving to Readers Digest and Doubleday before joining HarperCollins in the legal department in 1989. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in English, and attended Harvard Law School. 

Mark Schoenwald

President and Chief Executive Officer, HarperCollins Christian Publishing

Mark Schoenwald was appointed President and CEO of HarperCollins Christian Publishing in July 2012. Prior to that, he served as President and CEO of Thomas Nelson, Inc. Mark began his career at Thomas Nelson in 2004 as Chief Sales Officer.

Mark had a strong history of executive leadership roles. Prior to joining the publishing industry, Mark was involved in the private equity business, primarily on the operating side, having served as president of three portfolio companies that focused on home furnishings, gifts and the distribution business.

Mark and his wife, Terri, have three children and reside in Franklin, Tennessee.

Charlie Redmayne

CEO, HarperCollins UK

Charlie served as a Lieutenant in 1st Battalion, The Irish Guards, between 1985 and 1989. He began his career in the entertainment and communications industry at the now defunct breakfast TV business, TV-am, where he worked in sales and marketing, leaving in 1992. Between 1993 and 2006, Charlie was a highly successful entrepreneur, founding the media buying company RCL Communications, big screen entertainment business, Blink TV and, in 2000, one of the UK’s leading teen Internet companies, MyKindaPlace Ltd. This latter was sold to BSkyB in 2006 and Charlie became Head of Commercial Partnerships at Sky.

In 2008, he moved to HarperCollins UK to become Group Digital Director and was promoted to the global role of Chief Digital Officer within HarperCollins a year later. In 2011, he left HarperCollins to work with JK Rowling as the launch CEO of Pottermore. Charlie returned to HarperCollins as CEO of the UK business in August 2013. He sits on the company’s executive committee and reports to Brain Murray, President and CEO of HarperCollins Publishers Worldwide. HarperCollins is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the global media and information services company News Corp.

Charlie is married with two children and lives in London.
