Established streaming industry leaders like Netflix and Amazon are facing more competition than ever. Now legacy entertainment giants are in the game with their own subscription services, like Peacock, HBO Max, Paramount Plus, and the Disney Plus / Hulu / ESPN Plus bundle, while Apple TV Plus attacks around the edges. Meanwhile, the rise of ad-supported free platforms like Roku Channel and Pluto TV has attracted enough attention that Plex, YouTube, and Amazon’s Freevee are trying to get a chunk of the action too.

Whosoever holds this hammer lock, if they be worthy, shall possess the power tools of Thor.

I think most people will be worthy, considering how easy it is to unlock this lock shaped like the MCU version of Thor’s hammer.

Truth be told, I’d still find something to use it for.

“I get to do what I want until they think it’s going to hurt their beer sales or whatever.”

So Jon Stewart said of TV network deals while talking to Matt Belloni on his The Town podcast about his split from Apple TV Plus.

9to5Mac highlighted some of his statements, like that he didn’t view Apple limiting his show’s content as censorship. Head to the link below to hear the whole interview.

Netflix’s next sports docuseries goes inside the helmet of wide receivers.

What will we find there? NBC Sports writer Denny Carter might have the best guess, from this 2017 tweet:

Typical QB tweet: love my teammates god is good!

RB tweet: keep grindin

TE tweet: derp

WR tweet: the enemy speaks kindly & holds a knife

Following last year’s Quarterback series, Receiver premieres on Netflix on July 10th.

Netflix’s gaming boss is moving to another role at Netflix in gaming.

About three years after becoming VP of Netflix Games, Mike Verdu gave this statement to GamesIndustry.biz:

I am so proud of what we’ve accomplished, and excited to start a new team at Netflix on the cutting edge of game innovation.

He will apparently stay on as VP until a replacement is found and then work on “new technologies” (maybe something in the cloud?) in game development.

Say hello to Me.

Apple’s push into sci-fi continues, but for a slightly younger audience: the streamer just released the first trailer for the coming-of-age series Me. Babe wake up,

the first Wake Up Dead Man set photo just dropped. It doesn’t reveal much about the next Benoit Blanc mystery, which started filming today, but it does confirm the detective will be sporting a new look in 2025.

And he’ll be joined by quite the cast, including: Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.

“On a multi-national TV and movie streaming service there lived a hobbit.”

That’s not quite how J.R.R. Tolkien started The Hobbit, but that’ll be how it goes when hobbit life simulator Tales of The Shire arrives exclusively on mobile via Netflix. Netflix also announced a ton more games joining the service this month and beyond including several games based on Netflix shows, The Case of the Golden Idol, and Don’t Starve Together.

The new Disney Plus series is set 100 years before the prequels, giving its early episodes plenty of breathing room.

Photos so good they make the wasteland seem beautiful.

Amazon’s Fallout was a surprise hit of a streaming series, and the on-set pictures by photographer JoJo Whilden equally blew me away.

Whilden’s photos, shot on a Hasselblad 500cm medium format film camera, are perfectly matched to the show’s aesthetic (the series and set-stills both used Kodak film stocks). Check out the small collection of these beautiful images on both Whilden’s and Prime Video’s Instagram pages.
